(Cindy) Cynthia (Carlson) Gallo

Name: Cynthia Gallo
Birth Name: More appropriately - my name in high school was Cindy Carlson.

After MHS I: Woke up one day in August of ‘83 and figured maybe I’d better do something about the college thang, since that seemed to be the thing to do. Talked my way into Hamline. Had a dismal year academically - wrong place, wrong time. Oh well. Worked hard, paid my parents back, and then proceeded to do what I wanted to, not what I thought was expected. I have lived in a number of different places, and have done a number of different things. I’ve played a lot and meet a lot of amazing people along the way – all which gives me a feeling of deep richness and a knowledge that I am truly blessed.

While at MHS, I would have loved to have had a date with (or been noticed by): Paul Stiller.

Most Embarrassing High School memory is: My hair. I tried to straighten it, and made it look just plain bad. Why didn’t anyone tell me?! Don’t fight da curl.

Most exciting thing I’ve done since I left MHS: In general, just living a happy, synchronistic life. That is exciting to me. But specifically, working for the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States in Aspen, Colorado, and meeting various US presidents and other interesting folks. That was pretty neato. Later, it was falling in love with and marrying a fabulous man. Ask me again after I have a baby…

Farthest away from MHS: Literally or figuratively?! Literally, that would be way north, into British Columbia, or way south, into the Caymans islands. I haven’t yet gotten to all the far-flung places on my list.

Most bizarre place I’ve run into an old classmate: Not a classmate, but my favorite Mtka. West Jr. High teacher….. I ran into Mr. Frasier and his lovely wife in the Miami airport. Same gate, same flight. We were all heading to Grand Cayman.

Best friend while at MHS: No particular bests, but lots of really wonderfuls.

The most meaningful moment I have had since MHS: I know it’s cliche, but it was discovering who I am, and liking who that is (that was many moments, all strung together for a happy conclusion). Following closely would be realizing that I was in love with and wanted to build a life with my husband. Getting married was great, but even more so was discovering that I really like BEING married. Go figure!

I now reside in: Although I long for mountains and oceans and vineyards, I am a suburbanite in Eden Prairie, MN.

Here’s what I do on a daily basis: I am Domestic Goddess and/or a Domestic General Contractor, depending on what home improvement projects we’ve got going on. But normally, I get up, drink coffee, write, drink more coffee, write more. I do house stuff, chores, run errands Then I do my hair and makeup, put on heels and pearls, and make cocktails and dinner for my man.

I have kids?: Still practicing. But thinking seriously about actually trying for one.

I am married?: Joyfully.

Spouse/Partner: Very persistent……… He chased me for 10 years before I finally said I DO. He keeps my head in the clouds, my feet on the ground, and my heart safe and happy. And he makes me laugh – a LOT.

I’ve learned since high school: The Hokey Pokey is NOT what it’s all about. Other than that, there’s lots I’ve learned, including.....

* Things (and people) are not always what they seem.

* Everyone has a story worth telling and worth hearing.

* Life is right now. It’s not when I accomplish this, or when I get that job or that thing, or when I lose weight. It’s RIGHT NOW.

* Laugh every chance you get. Seriously. Seriously laugh. Or laugh seriously. Or something like that.

* Shakespeare said it best: “This above all: to thine own self be true.”

* Having a really nice car is not at all necessary, but oh it’s a lovely thing.

What I would like to go down in history for: Oh geesh. I’m can barely think about next week, much less history. Ask me at the 40-year reunion.
