Edward W. Kelly

Name: Edward W. Kelly
Birth Name: Edward W. Kelly

After MHS I: Went to the University of St. Thomas where Bernie Gaytko, Mark Heller and Jim Hardy got me in a lot of trouble.  I'm surprised any of us survived!  I took a year off after college and taught in a high school on the island of St. Vincent in the Caribean.  I then attended Mayo Medical School followed by five years in the US Navy as a medical officer.  I spent a year with the Marines in Okinawa Japan and the other four in Chicago (who knew they had a Naval Base there?)  I returned to Mayo to complete an orthopedic surgery residency then spent 6 months in Melbourne, Australia doing a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow surgery.  I now practice medicine in the Twin Cities with Minnesota Orthopedic Specialists.

While at MHS, I would have loved to have had a date with (or been noticed by): Debbie Delahney

Most Embarrassing High School memory is: Jim Dugan coerced me into putting on his dad's wig and sent me in to buy beer at tom thumb...I still can't believe the guy wouldn't sell it to me!

Most exciting thing I’ve done since I left MHS: Every day since my son Jack was born!

Farthest away from MHS: Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe

Most bizarre place I’ve run into an old classmate: The operating room at Southdale Hospital...but then again every day working with Mark Heller is a bit bizarre

Best friend while at MHS: Jim and Cliff

The most meaningful moment I have had since MHS: Meeting my wonderful wife and having our son Jack

I now reside in: St. Paul, MN

Here’s what I do on a daily basis: Run around the cities, "fix" people, rush home to pick Jack up from day care, run a few miles, give Jack his bath then read about trucks, put him to bed and then collapse.

I have kids?: Jack, 2

I am married?: Amy for 10 years

Spouse/Partner: Amy is from Wisconsin and also a physician.  She is in a fellowship now at the U of M in adolescent medicine.

I’ve learned since high school: That I should have paid more attention in my English classes.

What I would like to go down in history for: Being an honest, gentle and loving father, husband and doctor.
