Name: Tony Zaun Birth Name: Anthony Thomas Zaun
After MHS I: I went to the University of Minnesota wher I completed a BA in Political Sciance and Latin American Studies. During my undergraduate I won two scholarships to study/research overseas. On the first award, I went to Montevideo, Uruguay for a year. With the second, I went to Sao Paulo, Brazil for about 4 months. After graduating, I went to work for Texas A&M University, working with international scholars. I then moved to Washington, DC in 1997. In May 1999 I married Maria Palmisano at San Pietro in Montorio, a beautiful church with an incredible view of Rome. On February 2, 2002, I became a father with the birth of our son Alessio. I work at Georgetown University , in Washington, DC, where I manage a USAID funded development program serving young adults from Central American and Caribbean countries.
Most Embarrassing High School memory is: Was there a most embarrassing moment?
Most exciting thing I’ve done since I left MHS: There were two really exciting experiences for me. The first was in 1994 when I traveled (by bus and train) from Nairobi, Kenya to Durban, South Africa. I was in Durban for the historic elections, in which Nelson Mandela was elected president. The second exciting thing happened just a few days after my wedding. I had to fly from Rome to Blantyre, Malawi to participate in the United Nations Election Monitoring mission. The down side of this was that my wife and I didn\'t have much of a honeymoon but it was very exciting to be part of a large, international project. Oh, and we had our honeymoon a little later in Spain.
Farthest away from MHS: South Africa
Best friend while at MHS: Ron Salber & Dave Scott
The most meaningful moment I have had since MHS: Witnessing how poor poor can be and how hard people work just to put food on their children\'s plates.
I now reside in: University Park, Maryland
Here’s what I do on a daily basis: I have breakfast with my wife and son, bring my son to daycare and head to work on the metro with my wife. Once I get to work there is no telling what is going to happen.
I have kids?: An 18 month old son, Alessio Thomas
I am married?: Since May 1999
Spouse/Partner: Maria Bina Palmisano, Consultant with the World Bank
I’ve learned since high school: There is a lot more to learn, experience and contribute in this world.
What I would like to go down in history for: Having done something that mattered in people\'s lives.
